My kids attend WCPSS but I can see many advantages to private school. I've been to Cary Academy as part of a charity I work with. First, the campus is really lovely with great facilities. It doesn't have that chaotic overcrowded feel that public schools have here in Cary. It's true that their sports teams aren't as strong, but it's also easier for students to participate in sports as well as many other extracurricular activities. The kids I've encountered at Cary Academy are really great! Enthusiastically participating in the charity program I work with. I think it's a great school and wouldn't hesitate in sending my kids there.

Thanks for your replies. My kids are already in a private school so I wasn't really asking about the cost of cost/benefit of private per se I just would like insider views on Cary Academy.

This is straight from the horses' mouth of someone in the know "the kids don't try hard at sports because they don't need it. They all know their parents can afford college and no need for a possible scholarship". I don't think there's anything wrong with this, personally...just playing because you want to play.

I have a hard time believing that high school kids playing varsity sports base their level of effort simply on scholarship potential.

Yes I don't really understand that because then at ravenscroft it Durham academy where the sports programs are probably better and kids try harder it would mean there were no rich families and that's not the case at all

You work hard at sports because you're competitive and have pride and love your sport, not for a scholarship. A possible scholarship is just gravy.

Your oldest is going into kindergarten? You'll see. Especially with the parents.

I know some parents that are obsessed with their kids being the BEST at a sport or two (or three).

It's alarming.

Sigh. That's really sad.

I guess I can be naive and oblivious for a few more months...
