Hello,
I have a really hard time finding it out. I called to Wake county and basically these people either don't know and sending to someone else, I call there - no one answers, not returning calls, etc.
So, I have a paved 45mph road, then a ditch, then somewhere from there my proteprty starts. The question is where it starts exactly? Shall I start somewhere like 1 foot from the ditch? Logically, it can't be a part of a shoulder no one would want to cross it on a car.

I agree with Mike. You'll need to determine if there are any easements and right-of-way issues along the road, which might vary depending upon whether it is a city, county, or state road. A proper survey would show those.

For a two lane state road I believe it is officially 30 ft from the center line. State roads are often 45 mph. This is essentially the setback for signage as well, although sometimes people seem to be given some unofficial leeway with their mailbox posts if they are breakable.

There can be anywhere from a 25-100 foot right of way from the center line of the road. It varies for different roads so there isn't a standard. What road do you live on? I can try and look it up for you.

Hi, thank you all.
I live in a rural area of Creedmoor. My property is marked with a survey, which was made by my neighbor, whose property surrounds me. There are pools at corners. Ones someone told me that it's a 30 feet from the center of the road, but it seems goes kinda far inside on my property. And there is a ditch. If this is for emergency car parking then most car won't be able to cross and stuck there. What is going to happen if I build a fence lets say 1-2 feet from the ditch? Will I be told to remove it? Pay fine? Etc?

Your property corners may not be where you think they are.

If you are outside the Creedmoor city limits, call the Granville County Planning Dept. at 919-603-1326. They will be able to tell you what the setback requirements are.

Here's the Granville County GIS map: Granville GIS - zoom in to your parcel and use the measure distance tool to determine approximately how much right of way is on that road from the centerline.
