PARENTS: And, it's so sad to see this type of helmeted bike rider almost daily in Cary, going to or from a local school:

Love that bike lane. I'd ride more often if I could ride on a street like that.

The protected bike lane looks cool, although I'd be happy if we had bike lanes in general on some of the larger roads.

If we had bike lanes like that here I would definitely use it quite often. I'm slightly afraid to ride my bicycle on say Hwy 55 or Fayetteville Rd. People fly...

Divided bike lanes are so much nicer for everyone involved. If driving a car it means you can pass a bike safely and not have to slow down behind one.

As long as those on bikes know that they still have the obey the traffic laws, I'm all for it. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone on a bike just blow through a stop sign or red light like they had no idea they were supposed to stop. I don't think I've ever actually seen a responsible bike-rider following the rules. I'm all for more bike safety, both for the bike-riders and the car drivers!

From the Raleigh Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee facebook page:

Work has begun to update the BikeRaleigh Plan. During the next month, please participate in two ways:

1. Let us know a little bit more about your bicycling practices and your opinion about bicycling in Raleigh. Please take a few minutes to provide your feedback by taking our short bike plan survey here: http://bit.ly/1INHKSH

2. Visit our wikimap to tell us where you would like to see bicycle infrastructure improvements such as bicycle lanes, cycle tracks, and bicycle racks. The map allows you to draw your preferred routes, highlight areas that need improvement, suggest locations for bicycle racks, and more! All suggestions and comments will be reviewed by project staff and used to help develop infrastructure recommendations for the City of Raleigh. Check out the wikimap here: http://bit.ly/1FqMR7o

I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone driving a car with a cell phone in one hand and a coffee in the other. Makes one wonder how they are steering!

Responsible bike-riders do follow the rules. You may have seen the irresponsible ones.

There are a lot more people abusing the rules of the road on a bike than on a car.

Bikers want to "share the road" but don't want to share the rules. It's ridiculous. I'm glad you're being responsible, but there are a lot of people out there that think the rules don't apply to them.

I'm very careful around cyclists... several people in my family have been in serious accidents because motorists weren't paying attention... so it's not that I'm not sympathetic... but I TRY to be safe and make sure no one gets hurt and a lot of times the person on the bike makes it really nerve wracking.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen someone blow right through a stop sign in a car. I see people on bikes do it a lot.
