Been there done that in 2014.
But you have to take the driving test even if you already have a license from another state? At least that's what it says on the NC DMV website. Sounds odd.

No you do not take the driving test if you already have a license from another state. I remember reading here that the written test was eliminated but I also checked the DMV website and it says you need to take the written test. Maybe they changes their minds. I had to take the written test when we moved.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. This is from the NC DMV website: NCDOT: New to NC or Moving?

"All new residents of North Carolina who plan to operate a motor vehicle in this state must obtain a driver license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence. To apply, you must appear in person at one of the state's driver license offices and take the required tests. They must successfully complete the road sign recognition and vision tests to obtain a North Carolina driver license. The written and road tests may be waived if a valid license from another state is surrendered. If the out-of-state license has been expired more than two years, the written and road tests are required."

So hopefully I'll only have to take the road sign and vision tests and not the written and road tests. That would be good!

Don't believe it. You will have to take the written test.

I'll call to confirm but I don't understand why they'd have false information on their website.

The rules have changed since then. Your information is not current.

Lucky, not having to take the written test! I mean it was insanely easy if you had the cliff notes but tests/exams and I don't get along. I changed my license about a year after I moved. Nobody asked me anything about it. In fact, it was the nicest DMV I've ever been to in my life (came from NJ so...)
