The OP says "six months" of funds. And two kids.
Sure, it is doable. But, also difficult to encourage without a fair amount of hesitation.
Just two adults? Heck, I would say, "Do it," with little 2nd thought.
Remember that if you don't get a high paying job, fill in jobs pay very low here and there is no safety net except the rescue missions to get you off the street if you run out of funds.
NYC is known as a bad place to be without friends. NC is even worse.

Well, with a paid off house in your pocket, you have a lot less to fill in...
I am a software developer making really good money in Raleigh. If I lost my job tomorrow, I would be out of work maybe a month if I take okay money on a temp to perm contract. If your hubby is really good with skills in demand he won't have any trouble. I have expertise in SQL, C#, .Net and Azure. Java is also hot. Web design is not as wide open but some demand.

Advice to "wait until you have a job to move" is so unrealistic; unless you are a "high-level" candidate in an in-demand field, employers have plenty of other candidates to choose from who are local and easier hires.
Ah. He's a PM. Not a software developer. There are fewer jobs for PMs these days. They're often first to go. And there are tons of folks laid off from Cisco who would be competing.
cisco went through a major reno - you guys might have heard, John Chambers is not the CEO anymore. They are not encouraging remote workers even for a short period of time these days.

I didn't catch that part either. Still seems like there should be some jobs out there. The market for senior level software devs is insanely good. It seem like that would bleed over a little but IDK...
