Hey again guys,

So my wife and I just secured a residence in the Wakefield area and will be moving up soon. My wife will be working near Triangle Town Center so we're fairly close to her job. Unfortunately, the most direct route is the dreaded Capital Boulevard.

Having been to the area several times before, I figure it's not nearly as unbearable between where she'll work and Falls of Neuse, but I suspect that mall traffic can be a beast sometimes. So what I'm asking is this: what are some preferable alternate routes if traffic gets horrible on Capital? From the map, I can see her taking Spring Forest west to Falls of Neuse north until she gets home. Sound reasonable?

The Waze app can help route around traffic. It uses info from other active "Wazers" to see areas of congestion, cars on the side of the road, etc.

I dont drive there very often during commute hours, but i believe that capital is worst from the beltline to durant. TTC traffic is probably bad 20 days a year in December. So, her worst stretch would only be from 540 to durant, and then it would ease up somewhat.

Im sure that someone who lives at Wakefield or past the 1A split will pipe up though.

Oddly enough TTC mall traffic is a non issue except maybe around Christmas. Crabtree is the one with the gridlock issues. The bad part of Capital Blvd traffic is from past the mall to Wake Forest. Even then it's bearable if your not doing a 9-5 or typical schedule. By 10am it's leveled out and in the evening by 7pm it's not so stop and go.

Don't quote me on this but I think I read that in the future parts of Capital Blvd will be redesigned as an expressway without all the lights and intersections. I can't remember the exact term that was used but when and if this does happen it will help Wakefield commuters immensely.

Yep, it's not the TTC area - its the Durant road area. My hubby does a similar commute and it's honestly not that bad if you can avoid peak times (7:45 to 8:15) and 5:30 to 6:15. It picks up earlier in the afternoon on Fridays, especially in the summer. And even on peak times unless there is an accident, you get through the stop and go part pretty quickly - usually 10 minutes or so. I've lived in Wake Forest for 15 years and I hear more complaints about Capital Blvd traffic on this board from people who don't drive it regularly than I do in real life from those that commute daily.

Yep, there's a bottleneck from Wake Forest to Durant. Taking Falls of Neuse to Durant and then Durant to Crapital might be an option. But even Falls can be rough too.

The worst thing is getting out of TTC during holidays. Only 1 light to help you by the State Employees Credit Union branch.

Most of their shoppers take the bus ....

Just being snarky. I've taken the bus there many times in the past.

With the opening of the realignment and expansion of Falls of Neuse rd., Capital blvd. is really not that bad anymore even at rush hour. From Wakefield to TTC mall the fastest route will be Capital blvd.

I live on Capital by Triangle and the traffic can be brutal going towards Wake Forest from 4 to about 6 PM.
