NCSU has an excellent website on using native plants in place of exotics, they call it "going native": Going Native: Urban Landscaping for Wildlife with Native Plants

And NCSU Cooperative Extension has publications on promoting plants for pollinators:
this link is for the Chatham County extension, but it's close enough if you're in the greater Triangle area.

good luck with your effort, I applaud it. I would do it too but the Grass Police in Cary would throw me in jail if I did something crazy like rip up my lawn....

Yea I live outside any city limits. Certainly don't want grass. The majority of the acreage I have to mow can't be seen from the road either. I don't water my grass, I don't keep it to any set length. I'd kill all the grass and leave it accept even I don't enjoy looking at that...
