What sucks is that what should be common sense, isn't for a lot of people. Hence the page you posted.
Exactly. Buy a home in the middle of the woods if you want to live like that. I have my more than fair share of toys and they're all tucked away nice and neat. It wouldn't be fair to my neighbors every time they came home to see a dilapidated boat parked in my front yard and my house painted with grafitti.
And I don't live in Cary nor would I. I don't need to be governed nor would I choose to be around people who feel the need to be governed. My neighborhood doesn't even have a HOA. We all respect each other and if something looks like crap we tell each other, "Hey, clean up that mess. What's wrong with you?". LoL
Me too! I need to move somewhere that allows me to keep a car on blocks and graffiti my house. My quality of life has been drastically reduced because these things are not ok here!!!
I can't begin to tell you how much it cost me to have my washer re-piped when they told me I had to remove it from my front porch. All was fine for a while since the camaro on cinder blocks blocked it from view. But, once I was told to remove that the washer became visible.

I live in Cary and we have an HOA, but I've never heard of any neighbors being told what to do by them. My neighbors keep fairly neat yards and homes. It's a non issue.

I live in Cary. No HOA, no one governs us, our yards, house colors etc. I also lived in Raleigh for most of my life and it's absolutely no different there from that perspective.
And there IS a dilapidated boat in a front yard in my Cary neighborhood and has been for years!
I lived in Cary and now live in North Raleigh. I'm "offended" (word of the month) by not being allowed to park a junked car in my front yard! I'm also offended that I can't paint graffiti on my house (after all, it is MY HOUSE)!
Darn rules! Guess I'm going to have to move to an area that has no rules or laws. And while I'm at it, I think I'll find a place that allows me to do whatever I want, including, but not limiting to, flying any flag I want, no matter who it offends!!!
Reasonable rules are required to provide quality of life for all- but problems arise when towns look at code enforcement as a revenue stream. When code enforcement officers are walking around with a ruler to measure the height of your grass just to write a citation and make money for the town - that actually reduces quality of life. that being said, it doesn't look like Cary fits that description.
