I have applied to a lot of jobs on the state's employment website.
I haven't heard anything back.
This has me worried just how competitive is the market for state gov jobs?
Many of the positions do not have contact numbers.
How are you suppose to check the status of your applications?
As a former State employee.. I can tell you the hiring process for me took months.. I applied in August, interviewd in Sept, did the psych test and physical in Oct and had a start date of late Nov. Good luck and just be patient.
wow, I had no idea it would take months.
I'm anxious by nature so the longer it takes the more I ponder what I could have added or changed on the application.
thanks for the info.

I agree, it took me months as well! If you really don't have a contact number, you can generally call around the department and find someone in HR wo can at least confirm that they have your application. It takes a bit of leg work on your part though.
good advice lamishra, even in public companies it takes patience and also a willingness to reach out to ensure they know of your specific interest in the job.
fyi, I interviewed for 6 months, had 11 interviews for my current role and that was solely due to hiring budgets being frozen. So many factors play into it now, so do be patient but also politely aggressive. Online application portals are also not infallible, for I secured my first interview by finding out the hiring manager's name and emailing and calling him direct (left a voicemail). Ultimately he emailed me back, handed me off to HR to begin process, then they could not find my resume in their system?

Agreed. I work for the state now and know first hand the process is very slow. It can take months before you are even contacted for an interview and then it may be another month or two before you find out if you go the job. For my current job it took about 3.5 months between application submittal and job offer. I imagine the turn around time will vary by department, supervisor, and budgets available.
FWIW, about 3 months after I started I was still getting "rejection" letters for other positions I had applied for before applying for the job I was offered.

Thanks.
I just got a job working with the SBI. It took a month to get an interview and it's taken 3+ months to do everything else . They are slow.
I think there were 80 applicants for the job I got
My son and daughter both work for the state, one is in Human Resources.
The speed of the recruitment varies greatly depending on funding and the hiring manager's need to bring the new hire on board.
My son was hired in 2 weeks because he had a very needed IT skill. Previously, he was not selected for several other IT jobs in state agencies.
Most recruitment listings have a contact person you can call for application status.
Good luck.
