I think the wcpss site is a little confusing to navigate so I thought I'd try and find the list of schools. It took a while, but here is a link. It's sorted by elementary, middle and then high school. I think middle starts on page 5 (at least on my browser).

I also agree with a PP that, depending on what area you live in, the reports of constant reassignment are exaggerated. I have an 8th, 6th and 2nd grader and in the 9 years we've been in the school system, we haven't been reassigned once. I know very few people that have been reassigned, although again I don't live in an area of huge growth (I live in South Cary).

Sixth graders cannot play sports in Wake County, this includes cheerleading. There are plenty of club cheer gyms though.
Western Wake County (Cary/Morrisville) has overcrowding issues. This means that you may move down the street from a school but can't actually attend there. Year-round vs. traditional will not make much difference unless your kids are on two different schedules( "tracks")
I agree that being close to your husband's job will make a huge difference. There are lots of great schools in WC and if you don't like the ones you end up in, you can always apply for a magnet school next year.
