Did anyone see House Hunters Wednesday night? It was in Wilson, which they said was a suburb of Raleigh....45 miles away. Never knew 45 miles counts as a suburb.
It was an interesting show for those who like the older 'vintage' homes. I hope they have it on Renovations later, as they moved in and started slowly with the renos. I'd like to see how it turns out.
Thanks for sharing! We've been seeing that they stretch the facts a bit on this show. Not unusual for a TV show. But would like to catch the episode....
I didn't see it but wish I had. I assume it was one of the homes in the old Raleigh Road section of Wilson. It's one of my favorite places in NC. Some of you should drive through the area if you get a chance. While you're in the neighborhood get a hotdog at Dick's...or go check out Parker's Barbecue on 301.
It's unlikely suburbia will spread from Wake County to Wilson, as future growth will likely take place in Eastern Chatham along with the immediate surroundings of RTP. That's not unusual for a TV show, though. One show called Charlotte "the gateway to the American South" which is pretty inaccurate, as DC would be a better option. Wilson is close enough to Raleigh, anyway. Sanford also fits in the same boat.

People commute to NYC from 45 miles away and even more; if HGTV people are based there they may think it's par for the course here, although I doubt it ever will be.

They are based in Knoxville, but I have heard a HGTV producer lives in Carrboro. That explained why there were so many Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill shows on all the HGTV programs several years back.

As Twingles pointed out, there are plenty of cities in the US that have suburbs 45 miles (or more) away.
What makes it not a suburb is the fact that it's a city in its own right. Even if some people commute from there to Raleigh, that doesn't make it a suburb, any more than Newark, NJ is a suburb of New York.

Saw the show and was intrigued with the low cost of the vintage homes they showcased, so I went to Realtor.com to check out the area homes available. I was surprised that there were no homes on Realtor.com that were the vintage type and price that were on the show. I'm wondering if the show was mocked up and not a true representative of Wilson.
