Just trying to get some idea of going rates for a vacation later this year

1. Daily rates
Do they charge more for multiple animals?
2. We may need them to spend the night
So overnight rate
3. How much to come walk your dog?

Thanks!

For a professional company, meaning not the teenager next door, think in terms of at least $18 per visit, possibly more for multiple animals, especially multiple species, and $85 a night for overnight from 7-7.

For vet techs or personal friends/family, I'd estimate 25% less. I'm having one of the vet techs at my vet's sit for me later this year, and she is charging way too little for her time. I'm planning on doubling her quote so I don't feel like I'm taking advantage.

There's a Triangle Area Petsitters site that has are members. Might be worth checking out.

Consider pet sitters that invite the dog into their homes. Cheaper AND the dog has company all day!

The going rate for a NC state vet student to stay at your house seems to be $50/day (night). If they are staying at my house on days they have class, I have my usually midday dog walker come by so that the student doesn't have to worry about rushing back between classes. There could be an extra charge for that, depending on the student and how far you live from NC State. Otherwise they are at my house studying away and spoiling my dogs!

One of my friends gave me the name of the one she used, and then I later got additional names from that student. I think there's a way to inquire directly through one of the professors - I'll see if I can find out more.

Anyone know how to find a vet student who will feed two cats during our vacation. I would rather not board them. One wouldn't care, and the other would be very unhappy. We live very near NC State.

$85 per night? Wow! I charge $50/night, and some folks act as if I am robbing them. And that's here in So. Cal, where everything costs more.

That's due to lots of competition. The "fur baby" craze is a relatively new phenomena in this area. Yes of course people have always needed pet services but I'd wager that not only is it due to more people moving here but more of them who have pets and do more for them care wise then the typical yard dog we grew up with. You gotta agree that some of these dogs have it pretty good when out comes to medical ,grooming, diet and housing. I've cleaned houses with pet showers nicer then mine.

Prior to 10 years ago there wasn't much money or oppt in pet sitting so if you needed one they could name their price. In Socal the doggie cuture isn't as new and people are familiar with sitting services. Add in the large illegal worker issue, unemployed millennials and you have lots of people working jobs off the books. It didn't start in NC but I'd imagine that businesses model has been growing from wesrt coast straight to the Northeast
