1. What has been the best thing about moving here? Or a few things, if you want.

2. What thing(s) do you miss most about the Northeast?

We are likely leaving the Northeast this summer because of a job transfer to Cary.

Lots of grocery stores.
Lots of 'back-ways' to drive to places (can avoid big hwys).
Lots of NEW retail.
Everything clean and tidy.

Missing the beautiful old houses and countryside, and easy gardening.

Only been here 3 months so we may still be in the honeymoon period:

1. Traffic (lack of), weather, and convenience. Everything is 10 minutes away....max.
2. Family and friends - as expected.

It is a difficult comparison, as we came from a couple of stagnant to dying small towns in PA in 1997 and everyone leaves something different behind...

1. The economy is better than much of small town PA. The climate is vastly superior, IMO. I don't miss winters.
Healthcare is better.

2. Family, to some degree. But, we were far from the first to relocate, so my family is somewhat scattered anyway.

BOS to RDU

Weather is better, housing is far cheaper, property taxes are far, far cheaper, traffic is better, access to the universities, roads far better, no salt on the roads in Winter, cars last longer, spend far more time outside, golf courses stay open year round, wear shorts in Dec., far sunnier than BOS, no 10 mile traffic jam at the bridge to the Cape on weekends, Gulf Stream is 20 miles offshore, lots of beaches, etc.

1. What has been the best thing about moving here? Or a few things, if you want.

It is just an overall better quality of life. Every place is new, the help in stores is friendly (you won't get the gangbanger stare when you approach a checkout counter as if you're being challenged to dare make the person actually do their job) and it's little things like wipes for your shopping cart and a bag for your umbrella or the flowers you are buying so they aren't leaving a dripping trail as you shop...little things that make life so much better and easier. Personally I prefer the weather here. i don't mind if it's 60* on Christmas.

2. What thing(s) do you miss most about the Northeast? Pretty much nothing. Maybe a REAL deli on occasion?

From DC Metro (Phila. Metro before that)

1.Traffic (or lack thereof), Warmer weather, Fewer/shorter waits for everything, Cheaper housing

2. Living near a dense, large, walkable city, Living close to other large cities - Phila, NYC, Balto., Being in an important city where more things are going on (things like the Pope visiting, Pres. Inaugurations, Baby Pandas! big name concerts, etc.), Much more frequent and nonstop flights, Metro (subway), The historical significance and important monuments/sites of my former cities - I love history and spent countless hours in the Archives, Air & Space Museums, National Portrait Gallery, Wash. Monument, etc. and showing friends these sites when they visited. Things take longer to get here - like fiber optic for Internet which we had in DC 7+ years ago, our public schools, and of course family and friends!

What I like:
1. Better climate/weather
2. Better economy
3. It's so clean around here!
4. Less hectic/less frenetic lifestyle
5. Property taxes are less
6. We've made really wonderful friends here.

What I miss:
1. The history of "colonial New England"...I miss parts of Providence and Newport - homes built in the 1600-1700's, cobblestone streets.
2. Ethnicity - the pockets of Italian, Irish, Jewish, , Polish, Portuguese neighborhoods with their bakeries, markets etc.
3. The beach - used to being 10 minutes away.
4. Hopping in the car and being in Boston in 50 minutes and NY in 3 hours
5. Family
