I'd probably want to charge $40 a day. Because even though it's only 3 hours,that schedule pretty much ties you to the house after noon. The best way I know how to put it is that if I'm only getting $20 or less I'm going to resent having to schedule my life around those hours. It's got to be enough to where I don't mind missing a trip or having to rush back home.
If they are like my daughter,they will want to eat. You may be responsible for fixing their snack. Will they be doing their homework or are they allowed to play? It sounds easy but there's always a catch.
Realistically I'm going to expect that the mother isn't going to want to pay more then $20 per day. If she did, she would probably have them in an after school program to begin with. Don't be suckered into charging a cheap rate as a favor. You will end up feeling used and disrespected. Even if you don't have another job outside the home,your time is valuable and you should be compensated accordingly.
We pay $10/hr for standard sitting like that. We pay one person $12/hr since she always comes with crafts for the kids to do and time with her is very interactive.
I pay $75 per week for aftercare for my two kids (1st and 4th grade). This includes a snack and care from 3-6pm, 5 days per week. This is for the 5 star aftercare program at their school.
Be aware that taking money for this service may violate HOA or zoning.
In addition, conducting any business is not covered by your homeowner's policy.
God forbid any injury may occur in your home. You may then lose everything you own in this litigious world.
We babysit our grandsons 3 days a week. Since no money changes hands, our liability coverage protects us.
She's not babysitting in her own home, she's going to theirs.
I'd probably ask for $20 per day. I can't imagine charging $40 for two hours, especially for kids who don't need diaper attention or special help with feeding, you don't have to bathe them or put them to bed.
I pay $12 an hour for my 3 kids (10, 8, and 4) and then round up to the nearest $5 increment, but that's just for the occasional evening gig.
