Spraying only kills the ones right there so we had better luck with Tarro or something like that which you have to leave out to attract the ants and they carry the poison back to the nest.
We then had it all under control when the kids put their Halloween baskets in the music room and guess what---ants all in it. We got that under control and then we found ants in the --

So we brought some back in on the mail and we start all over again.

Ants like the glue on envelopes. We get a few in our mailbox from time to time, but hasn't been a real problem.

As for in the home, we occasionally spot one or two in a bathroom, presumably looking for water, but otherwise nothing.

They visit my house in August. No, I do NOT invite them!

But...I do put out ant hotels for them. Seems to get rid of the problem.

Once I figure out where they are entering the house, I like to spray windex over there. They don't like Windex.

We have the mailbox issue too. Once the pheromone trail get set it's a never ending battle. The area between the wood and the bottom of the mailbox is a great place for eggs. I use the gel baits and the Terminex guy hits the ground around the post. I think I'll be replacing the post next year since it looks like they get up through the cracks that have formed in the wood.

My grandma always calls those 'sweet ants'. No idea why.

Were there a lot in the mailbox? Like, infestation level a lot?

If you think you have an infestation, you should probably call an exterminator. It will only get worse the longer you wait

Just spray it with an ortho bug spray, including the base and the pole. The little blighters will go look elsewhere.

We had them them this summer. Never seen such tiny ants in my life! A couple of Raid ant traps strategically placed cured the problem, as it always has when we've had ants. If any of your neighbors are doing work around the house, that may be the culprit, for some reason that stirs them up.

They also love wet wood or rotting wood so if you have any of that by door or window frames see if that's an entry point. You really have to determine their point of entry to home and correct that.

My grandma had another name for them that rhymes with miss ants.

I've been battling them all summer,fall and what looks to be winter. Sometimes they are all lined up and others are completely random. Oh and they can bite. It's not painful like a fire ant but it makes a little bump.
