Good morning, my job is wanting me to relocate to Raleigh. The office location is off six forks road just inside 540. We have a boy who plays baseball and is in the middle of his sophomore year of high school. The county we currently live in is fairly small town but close enough to Atlanta. It has 5 high schools that all rank well.
I am looking for advice on good areas based on the office location. Obviously good schools are a must, as well as a good sports program.
An another note if anyone has information on a travel baseball team organization please send my way as well.
We moved here from the same area, it's basically a smaller version of the same. Go to greatschools.org, pull up wake county schools, and sort by high school and rank. You'll get a good idea of what high schools to pick from.
Other than location, there's not a huge difference in the couple of high schools that rank 8 and up.
Of note, there is a brand new high school in Apex that isn't listed - Apex Friendship. It is in all likelihood going to be a top rated school, and it has a a gorgeous building and sports facilities. Getting a house in that attendance area can be pricey, though.
Do not worry about commute times. Traffic is not really an issue here. After driving in Atlanta area traffic, you'll think traffic here is positively adorable.
(I got lost on the perimeter once, and just gave up and looped the entire city of Atlanta - HA!)
Is relocation an absolute must? Reason I ask is if your son has grown up where you live now it's going to be super hard on him to relocate at that age. Another 2 years and he'll be able to graduate with his childhood friends. Yes, I know he'll make new friends and I'm sure it'll come easier since he plays ball. But new friends just aren't the same as old friends.
Point being it's just going to be really hard for a sophomore to relocate. Tough age. Just sayin'.
I hear you about the age. Trust me that's my first and foremost concern. That being said he says he is on board even starting looking at houses and schools.
