Hi all!

I have a daughter that is currently 4 years old and will be entering kindergarten next Fall. We plan on moving to Morrisville for a number or reasons but primarily to get her into a school that we want her to attend. We currently own a home and plan on selling this spring...and getting an apartment in Morrisville while we sell/look for a new house. By what date would we need to have a lease signed in Morrisville to have her eligible to enroll for the fall semester 2016? Any other general tips are appreciated.

Thanks!

ETA: Can't find this info on wcps website and have called school but not gotten a response.

You have two different issues here; if you're thinking of Cedar Fork, it is likely going to be capped. Probably in January. If you are not in by the cap date, you may not get a seat. You do probably have a better shot for kindergarten.

If it's not capped, it doesn't matter when you move in. You can move in the day before school starts, the day after, or any other time.

It is currently not capped. Are you saying that it will get capped once enrollment meets a certain number and you expect that to happen soon? Thanks for the advice!

unless they magically run the rules differently in Morrisville, if they for any reason decided to cap School X in January, you're not getting in after that date if you don't already LIVE in the assignment zone. Kindergarten or not. They set the date (January you've suggested) and that's it. They'd even cap K because they know (or have a really good idea) how many kids have already enrolled for it + are siblings of current students.

The board has said they will likely cap it next year. If they do and you are not in the base zone when they cap it the. You may not get in.

We will be moving south to the Clayton or surrounding area this summer. Looking at Johnston Co schools. Our child will need to be enrolled in 1st grade this Fall (2016). Are schools assigned by your home address? What happens if you move to the area and the school has a cap on it? Also can you choose which school you want your child to attend providing you are responsible for transportation?

You would be much better off starting your own thread asking about Johnstson County Schools. The OP was asking about Wake County schools.

In the meantime, some of your questions are answered here:

Yes, schools are assigned by address. You enter your home address at the screen to tell you which elementary school it is assigned to: Boundary Maps/Attendance Areas - Johnston County Schools

To request a transfer to another school, the forms are here: Student Reassignment - Johnston County Schools

Thank you for the links. I didn't realize at first this post was about Wake County. Around here the school districts pretty much follow the same guidelines thought it could be the same.
I did post about Johnston Co schools but so far have not had any replies. :/

It is better to start a new thread than revive an old thread. One of the old threads was from 2008, and the poster is probably not here anymore.
