The house where I grew up had a large unfinished basement(not a walk-out). I also rented a house once in Five Points that had a basement. There are quite a few homes ITB that have basements. In N. Raleigh you will likely find some walk-out basements if the house is built on a hill.

People who put down basements have little experience with them, or don't know how to control water and humidity. There's not many in the area so the average person doesn't know much about them. I've been in basement homes my entire life and would love to have one here.
