I am thinking about relocating to North Carolina.

I've heard that NC has a beautiful four seasons and is great for hiking, and affordability.

But is it a good place to have a FARM?

I like living sustainability but within reasonable distance from the city that I work in - 20-30min

Goats, chickens, the whole set up.

I know there are others out there.

I would appreciate any input I receive.

Thanks.

It can easily be done.
How much land do you expect you would want?

Agriculture is a $78 billion industry in NC. Here are some good resources to start with:

Under ten acres, fixer upper home, well or spring on sight.

What city, or area do you reccomend?

MY BUDGET: As cheap as reasonably possible.

If you are thinking of owning a lot of acreage within a 30-minutes drive of the center of Raleigh, you should do some serious cost analysis. You may find that is no longer affordable, since the Raleigh suburbs extend quite far out.

Tell us how much acreage you need and how much you want to spend. There will be several Realtors who can tell you if it is feasible. However, I suspect that or what you want to spend, you will need to be at least an hour outside Raleigh.

Use the Land And Farm Website. I suggest looking around Farmville, Mt Olive, Clinton, Wayne County, Kenansville, etc.

Live in Raleigh and Farm 10 acres of land will be super expensive. Why do you need to live in Raleigh? Try a surrounding county such as Johnston County where there is still some farming. Johnston County, North Carolina land, lots, ranches and farms for sale
You can get to Raleigh in under 1 hour from about anywhere in Johnston County.
There are other surrounding areas that you can purchase farm land but not economically profitable in Raleigh city limits.

Also something I learned from this forum... do some research on the pervasiveness of red clay and the Piedmont Region / Coastal Plain. The type of soil will have an impact if you plan to plant crops.
