Thanks for the reassurance. I think the advice about letting it kind of happen organically is good. We'll try to go with the flow and not push anything either way. I had a very difficult time at the end of my pregnancy so the lesson I took away from that is to be flexible and not worry if things don't go according to plan. I just like being prepared. as long as we have options I'll be ok I think .

If it does come down to it, it sounds like an Apt. will be the better option. Thanks everyone! We also don't need the space of a SFH while renting because we are going to try to sell as much of our furniture and purge ourselves of all the excess junk we've accumulated before we move. We've already started the process and have a huge to do list that we are slowly but surely tackling!

I love that idea. I wish we had done a better job of it. Moving a house into an apartment just does not work.

But seriously they are great and friendly dogs that we took the time to train properly. It sucks when breeds get a bad rap.
In most apartment complexes, there are excluded breeds. Although your dogs may be gentle giants, some breeds have an above average incidence of liability claims. This creates a problem for the landlord if they knowingly admit these dogs to the property.

You might get a letter from your vet describing your dogs' characters and see if a prospective landlord could accept them.

This info from Wake County may be a very useful resource.
