Hi All

Please advise on nice suburbs in Raleigh. We are planning on doing a visit before we move soon and would like suggestions on areas to consider. Looking to raise our baby in a nice, safe area and start a small business closeby...Budget for initial rent for apartment is approx $2000...

Another question (yes im a foreigner lol), should we stay downtown to access the areas you suggest?

Lastly, what should one budget per month for Rent, groceries etc for a comfortable living with a 9 month old?

Ps I know its broad, but just looking for good areas.

Thanks
M

May depend on the type of business you're looking to start.

Cary, Apex, Chapel Hill, North Raleigh, etc, etc.

Your rent budget should get you in anywhere (assuming 2 bedroom).

Impossible to say what your monthly budget should be - really depends on lifestyle. If you can afford 2000/mo for housing you should be more than fine.

I am afraid you may have to either visit and see what you like or make more decisions on the atmosphere you want to enjoy. There are nice suburbs in all directions around Raleigh. The amenities you want around you and how rural you would like will make a big difference.

Don't forget to include the medical insurance when you look at costs. Many foreigners are unaware of how expensive and essential it is in the US.

As far as good suburbs in The Triangle, any of them qualify. I agree with m378 that the type of business you start will have a lot to do with where you live.

Raleigh basically IS a suburb. The Downtown area is tiny compared to the overall city.
