Plus there are probably snakes in your backyard now! They're sneaky little critters, but they mostly don't bother people or dogs unless they step on them or stick their noses in their face and ask to be bitten.
We have a couple of big dogs (goldens) and we are looking to fence in the yard (black, open type aluminum) so we can let the pups out without always having to take them out on leash. Has anyone attached a snake fence? From what I can gather it's a tight mesh type fence that attaches to the bottom of an existing fence and blocks the snakes from going under / through the fence. If you have, does it work? Worth it or do they just get around it? My female is 12 and has brought me many a gift over the years. I'm sure she wouldn't hesitate to go after a snake and I'm afraid she will get bit. Being on the older side, I would like to try to protect her from that fate. I don't want to hurt the snakes, just don't want them in the yard and have my pups run into them.
Snakes probably wouldn't be able to get over heavy mil plastic pulled around the outside of the fence...4' tall...six inches in the ground. They wouldn't be able to achieve traction for climbing. Probably wouldn't look so great.
I lived a little north of that area when I first moved to Raleigh. Saw more copperheads in one summer than the total number of snakes I had seen in 35 years of living in Florida. More than I'd seen in 5 years in Tn. where they were prolific. Still makes my skin crawl.
