I attended a Builder Focus Group.

There were about a dozen experienced Real Estate Agents included.

The question was...If you wanted to live in an area that you thought had status, would you rather tell someone you live in Chapel Hill or West Cary???

What do YOU think?

Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Greenwich, Thousand Oaks, Palm Beach, etc.

Neither Chapel Hill or West Cary carries any cache from a name perspective (and I am a West Cary resident). In this area, neighborhood names would carry status - Governors club, Hope Valley, Preston, etc. From a regional perspective, maybe ITB Raleigh has status.

Of the two, I'd say West Cary. If I tell people I live in Chapel Hill, I expect that people will assume that I am a liberal, not that I am necessarily rich.

Another 0.

Look at the question again. I don't see your answers as possible answers!

That's a good point, but I think more and more people associate CH with status due to the higher taxes and school ratings.

But, you do have people who get excited over West Cary. I dunno. Tough call.

I'll explain the reason for my question after I get a few more opinions!

I equate Chapel Hill with money b/c the same house in Cary costs more in CH. I am not sure that I assign status to either.
