Thinking about moving to CH from Tampa (see post below) and now I am posting on behalf of my husband -lol
He plays tennis several times a week and also swims a lot. We are very spoiled with tennis courts and pools minutes from our current house and the many tennis players/leagues around us.
He would like to know if there are any tennis leagues in the area and what the situation is with available courts (any good quality public courts, or just clubs/country clubs?). How about swimming pools? We don't necessarily want to move into a pool/tennis community mostly due to price, but it would be good to know what the options are.
The town operates several pools. Two are indoor and open year-round. Prices are very reasonable IMO. I sometimes swim laps at the Homestead pool, and it's nice. All the info you need would be on this site:
I don't know about tennis leagues, but I used to use the Tennis Ladder site and it was very active with other people looking for matches in the CH area. My guess is it still is.
There are some popular tennis leagues in the area. I don't really play, but I know folks who do. The towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro have some pretty nice courts. There are courts at Wilson Park and Anderson Park in Carrboro and at Cedar Falls Park and a few others. Town of Chapel Hill, NC : Tennis Courts
I don't know why I didn't think of it in my earlier post, but Hollow Rock has both swimming and tennis. I have friends that do both there. Personally, I'm not into either activity enough to justify it, but since it sounds like your husband is, it would probably be worth looking into. It might be reasonable when compared to other clubs. It's in Durham, but just a few feet over the Chapel Hill (Orange County) line.
Another benefit of Chapel Hill Tennis Club is their indoor courts. They also host some USTA tournaments. A nice, well-run facility without the country-club feel.
