Wow, I was about to get my passport on Thursday, but I have no idea how it works. I am kind of disappointed that I have to put an appointment. I've always thought it takes weeks to receive the passport not just setting up the appointment.

They have their rules but depending on circumstances will flex a bit. My wife recently went for hers, had an appointment, and while wrapping up mentioned that my youngest son also needed a passport. The clerk told her if she could get him back to the post office before closing she'd process his application as well.

I was in the same boat as you. I didn't know there was one central number scheduling the appointments. However, the benefit is that you can give the day that works best for you and they can give you a post office with appointments. That's what I did.

Yeah it sucked waiting a day or two for a return phone call but all in all it wasn't a horrible experience.

Can you do renewals through these offices as well?

Passport office told me I needed to go to ATL or DC.

Here is the info on passport renewal:

https://travel.state.gov/content/pas...rts/renew.html

I just wanted to pop in to update the thread on the processing time (if anyone was concerned). We submitted our application on 1/28 and the passport just arrived on 2/10, so less than 2 weeks to process.
