Hi guys, I'm wondering if you can recommend a casual place for dinner with friends who have a toddler. Somewhere around UNC maybe, or anything in Chapel Hill? Not worried about the price range, more about it being kid-friendly. Thanks!

Check out Breadman's on Rosemary. Not that they cater to little ones, but it's a good choice. They are definitely family friendly, very casual and a wide array of choices for food.

Bear Rock at University Mall has nice kids' meals. It might be too casual for dinner? Check their menu first.

My kids always like Elmo's Diner in Carrboro. Maybe it's the name .

I believe the Weathervane in A Southern Season has a decent kids menu if you want to go a little higher end.

As mentioned above, Elmo's is great. Weaver Street Market is fantastic for very casual cafeteria style, especially if the weather is nice enough to eat outside.

Spotted Dog, Patio Loco and Carburrito are also good choices.

We were just walking along Franklin Street last night and Patio Loco has closed down.

If the OP doesn't mind a chain restaurant then I would suggest Red Robin on 15/501 (on the CH/Durham border) as a good place to take young children. It is very kid-friendly and the food is great.

Carburritos doesn't like active toddlers (aren't they all?). They used to have a sign up saying something to effect of "this is a small space--if your kid is loud, get takeout."

I agree. I love Carrburitos, but I wouldn't take my kid there. It's small, cramped and not the most comfortable environment, especially if there's a kid around. But the food is great!!

Our daughter 3-year old daughter behaves pretty well in restaurants, though. We had a great experience with her last summer at Top of the Hill. Not the cheapest place in town, but quite pleasant, especially on the terrace when the weather is nice.

Elmo's is perfect if you're looking for kid-friendly, cheap, good food and not a chain environment. Red Robin is perfect if you don't mind chains.

I like Top of the Hill on Franklin. It's a microbrewery/restaurant with very good, moderately priced meals. This place turns into a bar (not very kid friendly) after 9 or 10, so you may want to go earlier. Jim's is also good if you're in the mood for BBQ.
