Went to drop off someone at Southpoint Mall yesterday in the later part of the afternoon. I have never seen anything like this before. I dropped the person off, tried to get back to Fayetteville St. from the interior road behind Barnes & Noble, and it was gridlock. Turned around, tried to access the same road from behind Sears. Same thing. Made my way back to the opposite side, and finally got out to Fayetteville St. from there (Renaissance Parkway, I think). Traffic was heavy there too but I finally got out. I live exactly 5 minutes from the mall and it took me 35 minutes to get home!

What was going on there yesterday? Was this typical pre-Valentine's Day traffic? I don't know because I have never had to go to the mall on this particular day in the 14 years I've lived here. Just wondering.

Yep: Valentine's weekend traffic. It's nuts. I worked at the mall for several years and Valentine's was always way, way worse than Black Friday - and the mall is never prepared for it!

Southpoint mall exiting traffic is nightmarish at best during busy times, like V-day and Xmas buying rush. No doubt it needs to be reconfigured. It was way worse before they put the second stoplight of Renasaince (sp) Rd.

Sounds like Crabtree Valley Mall yesterday. Total gridlock all around it.

What a mess. I never thought it would be this bad the day before V. Day though. Christmas week, and of course Black Friday, yes, but those are bigger events.

Went to a movie there last night. Now I used to live near Paramus NJ, an area that can be impossible to get around. There is a big upscale mall there called Garden State Plaza and the ONLY times I EVER went to a movie there was on Sunday mornings for the first show, because the place is impossible to navigate otherwise. Last night at Southpoint was like that. In-SANE!

Just as bad at night, hackwriter? That's too bad, especially when it's cold, but at least it wasn't snowing or sleeting last night if you had to walk.

I don't understand this hey_guy's posting though. What does having a high iq and being smart have to do with my original post saying that I wasn't at the mall but just dropping someone off? Dropping someone off means that I was driving a car! I didn't even go in the mall!
