To me it is absolutely unreal that anything between 55 and Davis could possibly be considered "central" Cary. Wowzers.

I refuse to buy into that. On one of my FB "moms" groups, there's this one mom in West Cary who was dying to know when the new YMCA was going to open, so she wouldn't have to keep driving "deep into Cary" to go to the other one (you know - the one off Cary Pkwy -- which at one time was West Cary). I really do not understand this mentality at all. Is it brought with people from the northeast where there are such distinct (but small) towns, and it's a mental barrier to have to go "two towns over" to get something?

Sort of like the people west of 55 who can't possibly go to 55 for their shopping needs

Definitely not a northeast thing. I was used to traveling 30 minutes for everything before I came here. I think people are just insanely spoiled here - I feel myself becoming so every day.

It is very common for people to refute Copernicus and Galileo and perceive that the universe rotates around their very spot on earth.
Add in GPS being abused to eliminate basic map-reading skills, and that perception is easily reinforced.

Two things-
1) South Cary is not a Lepers' Colony. I left the heart of the "new" West Cary for the Southeasternmost corner of Cary and am overall much happier. This myopic view that 27519 is the only acceptable zip code in the area is pretty silly.
2) I would not use Ashton Woods as a barometer for value in either location.

The 27513 and 27511 are great compromises between the Leper Colony and the Promised Land.

Question - didn't the population boom of Cary occur due to RTP? One of the big draws of 27519 is convenience to RTP, so why is it the most recently developed?

my guess is they started close to Raleigh and then spread out. That is why Apex and Holly are now also getting popular.

All I know is I'm to start insisting that my area, between Davis and 55, start being referred to Olde (with an "e") West Cary. And since I am in Mike J's holy trinity of schools, I expect a bow when it's said, as well.
