I'm seeking a recommendation for a hair salon that can handle very curly hair. I've been to normal salons before and nobody ever seems to know how to style or cut naturally curly hair; their first instinct is to straighten it. Would prefer a place in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. Thanks.

Have you ever heard of a Deva cut? A deva cut is not really a specific hair style, like the "posh bob," but a hair cutting technique created by Lorraine Massey, the author of "Curly Girl" and co-owner of Devachan Salon, in New York City. With this technique, each curl is cut individually and normally at an angle so as to not disrupt the curl pattern. Deva cuts can be long, short, or in-between. The advantage of deva cuts, I think, is that is works with the curl pattern. Most traditional hair cutting techniques were created for straight hair. Although the flagship salons are in NYC many stylists are trained in this technique. You can go on the devachan salon website and do a zip code search to see if there is anyone in your area certified. Hope this helps!

Definitely search for a Deva certified stylist. I've been going to mine for years and it's completely worth it. It's like no one knew how to take care of my hair before then.

If you can't find anyone in Chapel Hill, Raleigh has a few.

Go see Scott Musgrave in Cary. Worth the drive, he's amazing!

This is great news! We are definitely going to bring our daughter to see Scott. We are moving down to Cary in about a week.
