Seriously want to know the math on this one. Where are you staying in NYC for the weekend that this is a cheaper option?

It is well known that food/drink tastes different on an airplane at 30,000 feet than it does at ground level. Here is an article that says the noisy environment evens affects the taste.

Interestingly, the food tastes just fine on the airlines from the MidEast.
PS I am glad I am booked on the Delta via JFK to LHR instead of the American airlines flight. I flew Emirates to Italy and it was a beautiful flight. Comfortable seats. Excellent food (on par with decent restaurants). Good liquor and very affable crew.

I wonder if I will get chicken, beef or pasta on my AA flight? Yum.

I flew the RDU-LHR AA flight on the way to a vacation over Thanksgiving, and I definitely won't be doing it again, even if it means another connection. Like others have mentioned, the aircraft is old, there's no in-seat entertainment and the AA boarding area in Terminal 3 at Heathrow is quite depressing, especially when you're stuck there for a while due to a boarding delay. It's definitely bearable and you'll make it to London in one piece, but it was overall a disappointing start and end to our vacation.

I've taken the RDU LHR flight 3 times this year, and I'm currently at MXP on a BA flight on the Tarmac connecting through LHR again to take it for #4 this year.....today

And I took it 8-9 times last year. It's all just blurry at this point.

I've done business class and coach. On the refurbished plane.

Business is nice with the lie flat seats. It is correct no entertainment but they give you a tablet.

Coach they did refurb the seats. It is the same AA international coach service regardless of flight. The only downside on this plane is no in seat entertainment.

RDU immigration on the return is great. Add global entry great changes to spectacular.

The main negative of the flight as others have mentioned is the planes age, which is still par for the course on many AA planes however it does increase the odds of an Irrops (irregular operations). I have had the flight cancelled a couple of times and it was a nightmare getting rebooked. But in air having done this flight countless times over the last 5 years it's par for the AA course. (Disclosure: last year I did 160k miles and 130 segments with AA)

I flew coach with kids, and did not notice Business class to be any better, so save your money.

I would prefer Emirates going via Boston, Newark or JFK if my final destination is not London.
Emirates or other Asian airlines really rock when it comes to service.
The 767 is a lot quieter than the aircraft it replaced. Depending mostly on where you sit, you might be exposed on any aircraft to noises such as hydraulic pumps, landing gear, flaps, etc. These are big machines and they make noises like big machines. I've been on the newest Emirates aircraft, and if you get into rough weather on them, they will rattle just like any other.

The 767 is an older design, but that doesn't mean all 767s are older than all 777s. Some AA 767s were delivered in 2003. Some AA 777s were delivered in 1999.
