Watching WRAL anyone would think its Doomsday with an extended lunchtime news coverage of the forecast storm and Reporters driving around the Triangle reporting on 'nothing'. Seems schools have closed early too, and just wondered if there is a big over reaction or, if there is a real danger on the way for the Triangle that we need to be preparing for?
It's lovely and sunny where I am now, but I did put some important items in the bathtub, to be joined by me and my dog if there's an impending tornado.
I think when a tornado was reported as having touched down East of 95, Wake decided to close early. Durham made the decision early. I think the main concern is that the conditions are ripe for tornados and there is a watch in effect. Since so many schools have trailers being used as classrooms, I would close early too!
They shut our daycare down with about 40 minutes notice. Honestly I think it's a bit much, but at the same time I can't blame people for worrying about liability, especially these days.
That's a good point about the trailers at the schools - I didn't think of that.
I'm keeping an eye on the radar, and there is a chance something could develop but it does seem a little doomsday-y to me. As long as you keep up with what's going on an any imminent threat to your specific location I think you'll be fine.
In IL we had tornado drills at school in case one came through when classes were in session. I can't fathom the irreversible damage we're doing to our youth by all these closures. If/when they move out of the area they are going to be in for a rude shock.
Sunny is not good, want it to stay cool and cloudy.
They do still have tornado drills in school, I think the reason they closed early, which was a good call IMO, is because the worst of the storms are supposed to come through right at dismissal time and while kids are outside/moving around and on buses. They generally do not close for this type of weather and honestly, kids are generally safer in school if they are actually IN the school.
We ain't out of the woods yet. They're worried about a squall line moving through mid afternoon. It won't last long, but it could be violent.
Yeah, that's why I'm glad they did close the schools. I think that'll come through when kids are on the bus? Though maybe it would also have been fine to keep the kids contained at school a little longer? Probably safer than some of the houses.

Right...sunny is not good. It'll just heat things up and add fuel to the fire to what could come later.
