Hi, before I ask for quotes online, I need to know if I can even afford it right now. I want to hire someone to paint the interior of a 2000 sqft home (walls, ceiling). No clue about purchasing paint or doing it by myself. How much do you think I will need to hire professionals? They should provide the paint, materials & labor. Just need a rough estimate. I haven't moved in yet so its much easier to get it done now than next year when I will have furniture & wall decorations to cover or remove. Also, how long do you think it might take to finish the job?

Probably $5000 if you are including ceilings and trim. 3 to 4 days for a good crew. Make sure to book someone thats already booked out at least a month, probably means they are pretty good. I would get at least 3 estimates, but be weary of the cheapest one. If no ceilings, probably around $3,500.

Thanks Johnson for the tips. Gives me a good estimate of the cost. I will start getting quotes. Still a bit out of my price range but I think it will be worth getting it done before moving in.

It will also depends on what type of paint they will be using. A lot of the professionals use Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore paints which are more pricey than Behr at Home Depot. A lot of the professionals dont even need to tape off trim and such as they have the steady hand so that will cut down some time and cost in materials.
Good luck and defintely get a few quotes, its the best way to go

I have a similar size home and also got quotes. 3 bed/2.5 bath with a loft and 18' ceilings in the main living area. All the quotes were within $100-$200 of each other. Around $3,500 not including the ceiling, and that was several years ago so I would agree look for bids to come in around $4000-$5000 depending on complexity.

As far as paint goes I have used them all, Behr, Sherwin Williams etc. You're going to laugh but so far the best paint I've used has been $25/gal Glidden Duo. The pros like Sherwin Williams because they call in orders and they even deliver, it's a huge time saver for them. Also they get insane discounts, their out the door cost is around ~$35/gal depending on their yearly purchases vs us paying $60/gal. You'll never catch the pros at Home Depot no matter how good the paint is.

If you decide to DIY a great tip for trim work is taping it off then caulk the seam using a very thin bead wiping it almost all off with a watered finger and paper towel. This insures no bleed thru and looks mint.

We just paid around 4500 for similar square footage, ceilings included. We don't have any cathedral or two story ceilings.

This was the first time I've ever hired out interior painting. It was beyond worth it.

Contactors/painters get a discount with Sherwin Williams and purchase a line of paint that is not available to non contractors, they are paying about $20 a gallon. Two factors I found impacted price: are you have trim painted? Trim is time consuming and can cost about the same as painting the walls. The other factor that impacts price is if your painter is insured with liability or workers comp. Insurance is expensive so that is passed along to the client. You may not view painting as a high risk but they spend a good amount of time working on ladders especially with all of the two story foyers and living rooms around here.

Anyone can become a preferred customer of Sherwin Williams and get really big discounts. Just sign up and wait for them in your inbox.

When you bid it out and if you have colored walls, make sure the bid includes a primer coat and two top coats.

Shop around. I just had a 1,900 square foot home painted. Ceilings, walls, doors, (but no trim) for $1,750 including Sherwin Williams Paint. I have vaulted ceilings too.

That's cheap. Were they insured and all that good stuff?
