I just got my active NC RE license and would like to get my feet wet into real estate part time.
Are there any local RE companies/BICs that allow you to work part time - ie. on your own time.
I believe the big ones require you to be doing RE full-time as your primary job.

Smart ones want you full time, but there is no lack of firms that let people paper the walls with licenses.
I'm a Broker. I want to be able to act as seller and buyer agent on my own time.
I heard there some RE companies that let you do this, as long as you pay some regular monthly fees (for tools, their resources, realtor fees, MLS access). And also of course the RE company receives some % commission off.

I don't know how you can possibly do this part-time. Especially as a buyer's agent. Unless you have connections that you know would want to work with you, why would I work with a part-time agent over a full-time agent?
Things sell so quickly around here, the last thing a buyer is going to want is to only have access to their agent on certain days of the week, or certain times of the day.

I agree.

Plenty will allow it but do you really want to spend the kind of money it takes to remain active as a realtor, or do you not plan to join the Associations or gain access to MLS?

I totally agree as well.
That said, I do have a good friend who does RE part time as a second career. I know he closes some, but don't have a clue how many. I also know that I don't refer people to him - entirely because he is part time. I wouldn't hire a part time agent, and I won't recommend that anyone hire a part time agent.
there are any number of brokerages that will take a small desk fee/transaction fee and allow you to "hang your license" with them. You are correct, not ALL brokerages will.
Just remember everyone starts somewhere. Helping newbies out is good Karma.
