Richmond, for sure. Probably going to move up there in a few years, anyway. I wouldn't mind living in most VA urban areas like Norfolk, Northern VA, or Charlottesville. I'd rather not live further west (Roanoke) because of the cold, though. I've spent enough time in the Appalachian Mountains. I actually like the humidity around Raleigh, but I'm sure Richmond isn't too different.

If I'm forced to go further north, maybe Philly. Nicer NJ suburbs like Princeton, too.

Baltimore, The Bronx, or Philly. All urban (which I love) and affordable (relatively speaking).

Well, we're in Apex now so if I had to move North, I'd say we'd move to Raleigh...

I had 5+ years in DC and I just couldn't move back or anywhere further north. DH is from MA and I had it added to our vows that he will never ask me to move to MA.

When it comes to a city like NYC, I don't even care about the weather. Probably speaks as to why I wouldn't mind the weather in Minneapolis. But I wouldn't like Raleigh if it didn't have 4 seasons.

I was just thinking...I have been driving to DC 2-3 times a month ever since I moved to Raleigh, but I would really have no desire to live there. Awesome city and it's definitely one of my favorites in America, but it's too expensive for what it offers IMO.

I've been to Boise for work. I'd move there in a heartbeat. Beautiful area, great cost of living.

Do you have ANY criteria (list of potential places) or is the world literally "your oyster" as long as it's north of here?

Start with places you've been before and liked or places you can get/keep a job. Research other places, preferably firsthand. Post on those places' C-D boards (having done your own bit of objective research first ) to ask place-specific questions.

Stay away from those "best places to move" lists

One place I've been that I would love if not for the winters is Ann Arbor, MI, which reminds me of a cross between Durham and Chapel Hill.
