Hey y'all. First of all, I'm only looking for Duke docs as all my medical records are there. I have an excellent hip surgeon, but I'm needing a general ortho. (I have a message in with his PA, but I thought I'd check here for personal recommendations.)

Scenario..... my not-so-graceful self decided to skip a step on a step stool and fell HARD on my kitchen floor last Wednesday. Hubby has experience in emergency response, so he was right on top of things. Made sure I was stable, then called 911. I couldn't move. How I didn't break anything, I'll never know! (Guess it pays to have some extra padding! ) CT and x-rays done at the ER showed no breaks or organ damage. (And my perfectly preserved and scoped hips are doing well!)

I'm still having trouble with pain, and it's most likely soft tissue bruising. I had a follow up rib x-ray today that was sort of inconclusive. Might or might not be a hairline fracture. (Same treatment for fractured or bruised ribs, so it's pretty much a moot point.) I was told to check in with ortho to see if there was something else that could be done. Like I said, I have a HIP ortho at Duke, so I'd prefer to see someone there. I really like having all of my records in one place for all of my other specialists to see.

So... after all of this rambling (blame the pain meds!).... anyone have a general orthopedic doctor at Duke that they like?

Thanks!!

PS.... if anyone would love to come clean my house, do laundry, cook, etc. ...... lol

If you are in Raleigh, Duke Orthopedics of Raleigh:

Donald O'Malley is good

So is Michael Comstock (less of a warm fuzzy but a really good doctor)

Yep, we're fans of O'Malley, too. Did DH's knee replacement and treats my hip bursitis.

But if you like ypur hip guy, I'd suggest calling them first. Most ortho's are more generalists than we realize. Heck, O'Malley coukd have done DH's carpel tunnel surgery, too. He does that procedure several times a month (but we opted for Raleigh Hand).

Sounds like O'Malley is a good one. I did touch base with my Hip guy. I really don't need to be seen unless I start coughing up blood or if the pain becomes unbearable. Treatment is the same for bruised or hairline fracture. The shot of Torodol really made a big difference. I ended up being the emergency babysitter for my 4-month-old grandson today, and there's no way I could have done that yesterday! (Luckily his aunt was able to help me out!)

Oh, and JkGourmet, Raleigh Hand (Dr. Post) did my husband's wrist surgery. That's a top notch group over there! (Plus, he's pretty easy on the eyes! lol)

Yep, Dr Post it was and he'll be doing the other wrist next month. Good surgeon and nice guy.

ps - O'Malley is pretty cute, too. Great ties and sense of humor. Not knife hapoy like many orthopedic surgeons.

(One additional comment, in case this gets pulled up on a future search for carpel tunnel or Raleigh Hand. A neighbor of ours used another surgeon in that practice a few weeks before DH. That surgeon did not do arthroscopic technique. She has had a poor result and a long recovery compared to DH. After seeing DH's results, he will not be doing her other wrist. So, my recommendation of Raleigh Hand is limited to Dr Post. )
