Always interesting to hear people talk about retirees as some sort of alternate life form. They're just you, a few years from now. We're all at different points on the same bell curve.

In short, retirees are relatively under-represented in Raleigh.

In Asheville, it's 16.3%. In Wilmington, 14.0%. In Southern Pines, 27.5%.

FYI, the statewide figure for Florida is 17.3%.
There you go with your "facts" and "data". What do you think this is, a City-Data forum?

At least today's retirees typically come with pensions to spend. I can't say that for my generation when it retires.

Retirees don't get laid off. When I worked in credit card, they were our best risks until they went to Heaven. Even then, many left estates that paid their debts.

Perfect....I couldn't have said it any better. People don't stop living life just because they're retired.

Hubs and I are both retirees and the house is up for sale. Actually, hopefully it's sold to one of the young couples who offered the almost-400K price. We sure can't afford to repurchase a house at that cost.

Some of my best friends are retired...and still working part time at jobs they are overqualified to do because being retired is boring and not very lucrative.

I really appreciate the wisdom they bring to the table. They are generally above petty workplace drama and have a very chill outlook on life. I aspire to be just like them someday.
