Do you have a favorite place to go for a stroll in nature around here? there are a couple of transplant Moms looking to get out in nature early Mother's Day and breath a little fresh air :-)

We've been to Umstead Park as well as the Dorothy Dix campus. Some quiet space with a history spin with it might be ideal. Been to Oakwood Cemetery too. Saving Duke Gardens for another day...

Thanks,
LAR

Greenways in and around Raleigh are surprisingly tranquil.

Lake Johnson has a fabulous trail that will take about an hour. There's a boathouse, ducks, plenty of tree shade, and a few hills. Completely paved.

Durant Nature Reserve has nature trails that are green and gorgeous this time of year. They have two lakes, shelters used for camping you're bound to see lots of nature (especially wild deer, rabbits, and turtles bunched up on logs) And yes the greenways are great too. Trails aren't paved.

The Neuse River Greenway trail is really nice. Park at the base of the Falls Lake Dam where they have bathroom facilities or across the street in the Trail parking lot. Paved trail that follows the river. It goes all the way to Johnston County. I see LOTS of moms/strollers along this trail. Beautiful !!
