I am considering the possibility of moving to Durham. I'll be working a little North of the Durham area off Old Oxford Rd.
I have heard all sorts of things about the Durham area. I have not actually been much around there so have no first-hand experience with what it is actually like.
I would like to find an apartment or some type of rental house where I can live in a safe neighborhood. I would really like to live near any kind of (safe) downtown scene or area that has bars/shopping within walking distance.
I really would like to keep my rental rates as low as possible, but I do want to pay enough to be in a non-dangerous area. Maybe less than $600 per month or something. If that is unheard of I can, of course, pay more. I also realize that with less than $600, I doubt I could find something near shopping... but, who knows?
Can you guys recommend any areas I should start looking in? Safe neighborhood / good bar scene / music scene....
Not sure that price range will offer much other than mostly student-oriented housing near Duke Univ. I'd recommend looking in and around the Old North Durham area, which puts you very close to the restaurants/bars/shops of 9th Street.
Student housing doesn't sound like too bad of an option. I'm assuming it's fairly safe around there, and hopefully cheap. I'll be visiting Durham this weekend so I am hoping to get a few neighborhood recommendations that I can drive through. Anything else I can look at along with the Old North Durham area?
Also, please disregard my spelling in the title. Apparently I lost all skill in communication/spelling after I graduated.
