Not if every place implements the strategy of eliminating tipping Captain Obvious.
With more and more places requesting tips in the form of tip jars and SquareReader checkout systems, methinks the new model is not catching on anytime soon.

A tip is for service personnel who do not make minimum wage. Those people must report their tips and their employer provides a way for them to (at least partially) report on their paycheck.
These places that are collecting tips in this manner are in for a huge IRS headache.
Not really. A tip is a tip.
I prefer to tip cash, if I have small bills in my pocket, and I could not care less about the servers' relationships with the IRS.
I do get a kick out of the stresses that so many people endure over such a small thing.
I really can't be bothered spending time to analyze a person's potential income level when I'm just trying to pay my bill and leave. I tip. Recently I got my food truck order when their light fixture caught on fire. It was already hot out and surely in there. Maybe the person owned the truck, maybe not. Regardless, I tipped well using square's tip function on their app.
Though about this thread when at a restaurant last night.
The bill / receipt came with one of those 15%/20% etc. tip guides with the respective tip and total amounts. Didn't look right. To me anyway.
Totaled it up, and yep, the tip was calculated on the meal plus the tax.
I tipped 20% on the meal, and left a message on the bill that I don't tip tax.
So - uniformed or misleading?
Even if your meal was expensive, 15%-20% on the tax would only be a couple cents to a dollar more......honestly doesn't matter. If you don't trust them, the calculator app on your phone is there for a reason
A $2.25 soda, with multiple refill trips by the server
A FREE glass of water, with multiple refill trips by the server.
My friend had beer delivered to him (like door to door delivery) last week - I didn't know such a service existed but I shouldn't be too surprised.
Another friend works for OrderUp and he says that he prays that he doesn't get orders for Wendy's or Domino's because then he knows it's a poor NC State college student who won't tip him.
