Does anyone here do the PRK (Photo refractive keratectomy) to correct the vision? It's similar to Lasik but doesn't create flap, so less corneal will be removed. I have searched this forum and I see most people recommend surgeon to do lasik. How about PRK? Anyone did this before? which surgeon is really good at PRK in RTP area?

PRK has a very long recovery time but is the only option for people with thin corneas. It's the 'old' technology.

Such a risk just to avoid contacts or eyeglasses (spoken by somebody who has opted for cosmetic surgery and would consider it again.)

Yep, I agree, contacts are 100% reversible. A bad Lasik procedure, not so much...

I had lasik on both eyes, and left didn't take well. So I had it redone with PRK, as to not cut another flap as advised by the surgeon. It does take a couple days to heal, but it has worked very well. My surgeon was wonderful! Check out Dr. Dean Dornic in Cary/morrisville area. Highly recommended. Multiple people in my family have gone to him.

I had LASEK done 10 years ago which I think is another name for PRK. I had a very well known eye surgeon do it, but not in TRT. My eyesight has been great but I have had dry eyes ever since. Chronic dry eyes really really sucks, you don't realize how painful your eyes can be and can ruin your day every day when this happens. Luckily I found a specialist in dry eyes who has helped me manage it and I feel much better thanks to really expensive drops and wearing a sleep mask but I don't think I would do this procedure again and this is supposed to be safer than LASIK. They are finding these procedures damage the nerves in your eye and they won't necessarily ever heal.

I second Dean Dornic. I had two cats done with him. A true professional.

Lasik and PRK are not the same. PRK directly burns the cornea while Lasik you slice open the cornea and then use the laser to 'adjust' from there. This creates a flap which then folds down on top of the eye when complete.

Lasik is the newer preferred method with very little downtime and recovery.
