Does anyone have any experience finding locations to watch the Koka Booth fireworks without actually going into Regency? The trees are so dense in the area, that I would imagine it's tough to find a spot with a clear view. Currently I'm leaning toward walking to the Cary Parkway overpass over Rt. 1. I'm just not sure if there's a sidewalk on the overpass that I'd be able to stand on.
(ETA that looking at Google Maps, it appears that there is a sidewalk on the north side of the overpass
I'm a fan of parking at the Walmart and walking down to the field at the corner of Tryon Road and Regency Parkway. There's a sidewalk along Tryon for the entire length:
How is the viewing from that field? Can you see the entire firworks show or is some blocked by trees? How crowded is the field? ie. How far in advance do I need to get here to get a spot?
People put up chairs last night on the sidewalk to save spots for a viewing. It was crazy driving through regency today and seeing all these lawn chairs and beach chairs set up along the street.

I parked at a nearby business just before 3 today to check it out, and was surprised by the number of 'reserved' blankets out already....and that as I drove out, the lot in which I was parked had a $10/spot price tag. Then there was the lot further away, where they were charging $15.
I think I'll enjoy my fireworks on TV tonight!
I watched the Macy's on NBC last night. Great show.
