Wasn't there a city law preventing that? Did it get overturned?

At 21,000 ft², It sounds like it'll be a small format Target express store. Not like the bigger store a few miles down the road in Durham at Square.

I can't visualize how big 21,000 Sq ft is. What can I compare that to? How many Sq ft is the Walmart in Chapel Hill?

Publix in Cary (Bradford Plaza) is 49,000 square feet...if that helps. So less than half that is pretty small. I like the City Target's, although they are no longer calling them that.

21,000 square feet would be about the size if a small Food Lion. An average sized Barnes and Noble comes up to 26,000 ft². I can't put my finger on it, but I think Ross stores would be in this range too.

To put this into perspective:
Target's regular stores go from about 80K - 130K ft²

Walmart Discount stores (a la Townridge shopping center in Raleigh are in this range as well)

The most common Walmart Supercenters range from about 180,000-220,000 ft². The store in Chapel Hill would be about that range.

A small Target should be a welcome thing coming to west Franklin St.

This is awesome.

I'll still be about the same distance to the super target at southpoint for me but I think a small Target will be a welcome addition to W. Franklin.

So what are they going to sell if only 21,000 sq. ft? How narrow a list of items will they carry compared to a Target Greatland or Super Target? I assume no groceries, but how limited will the clothing and housewares choices be?
