Planning to visit the Life and science museum Museum of Life and Science: Know Wonder

Noticed a little creek in the map near the museum and figured there is a 1.2 mile trail (is it just 1.2 miles ? the creek seems to be quite long...)
Ellerbe Creek Trail, Durham NC

What other outdoor things to do close to the museum ? Will be taking our bikes, so nearby trails etc ? other fun things to do ?

First, I will say that the musuem will take the full day and then some (plus many of the activities are outside)! You will not need any other activities nearby.

Having said that, there is a Edison Johnson sprayground that is next to the museum. We were there once, and wasn't too impressed and never went back, but maybe it's better now.

Yeah, the museum will take all day. It's a great museum — best in the Triangle in my opinion. I really like the Natural Science Museum in Raleigh, too, but the Museum of Life and Science is just fantastic for younger kids (great for all ages, but I think elementary school is the perfect age range) so much more interactive than the old part of the Natural Science, so many more areas, so much outside space! If you want to bike to the museum that's very cool, but otherwise leave the bikes at home. There's a ton of outdoor spaces at the museum.

I'd add Duke Gardens, Chapel, and West campus to the list as well. Only about a 10 minute drive from the museum. Skip the sugar water at Pelican's snoballs and take the kids for amazing ice cream at The Parlor in nearby downtown Durham.

There is also Bennett Place

And the museum is very close to Downtown which gives you access to the ATT (American Tobacco Trail) for biking.
