Which totally fits into my view of how the California vibe is taking over the Pacific NW. Everything is looking shiny on the outside but bland inside and you will have to pay to play more and more. You can't even go for a quiet hike outside either city now without fighting for a parking spot let alone getting some solitude on the trails. Yeesh.

And the numbers using the Money site "Compare Your Town" function support this. If we look at Median Home Price/Median Income. I was always taught you can afford a home price about 3x your family income.

Seattle and Suburbs: (in thousands of $)
Seattle = 537/94
Kenmore = 515/99
Bellevue 695/108

Portland and Suburbs: (in thousands of $)
Portland = 349/67
Beaverton = 319/70
Sherwood = 350/91

Raleigh and Suburbs: (in thousands of $)
Raleigh = 208/68
Cary = 319/109
Apex = 300/102

The Portland area is certainly stretching for most but Seattle is approaching another stratosphere..unless you are Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos or one of their top-flight programmers. https://www.theinformation.com/how-t...tack-up-on-pay If you are a nurse, teacher, start-up programmer, sales rep, marketer, accountant or about anything else...it can be a world of hurt. Still get lots of friends and family wanting to come visit though because you live in a "cool place".

You can add San Diego to the "ship has sailed" list too, for the same reasons.
