Recently moved to RDU and had my targeted home for purchase fall through. Market seems to have slowed down a LOT, so I'm assuming it'll take 2-3 months before I both find and fully close on a new property. In the meantime I need a place to live! Have been couchsurfing mostly in North Raleigh, really like the neighborhood (Falls / Neuse west to Glenwood). Called Oakwood as that's where I usually stay for corporate gig, but got a quote of over 3k for 30 days, which is a tad steep for my pocked.

What are some good options for safe/quiet furnished apts that are more like 2k?

The only furnished short term apartments we found were corporate rentals with prices similar to what you have found. Some apartment complexes will rent an apartment for short term and help you rent furniture. Typically those are a minimum of 3 month arrangements, and I doubt it would be much cheaper.

Try craigslist and you might get lucky with a sublet. Or Sabatticalhomes.com. You won't be able to be picky about neighborhood.

The alternative (which you should seriously consider) is a extended stay motel like Residence Inn or InnSuites.
