My thoughts are with the east coasts of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Florida in particular, looks like it won't escape being raked over by hurricane Matthew at category 4 strength.

We just got the word that Oak Island is closed to visitors as of noon today. The rental company has also allowed us to reschedule our week for April of 2017 which I suppose is ok.

We'll be heading to the mountains instead so all isn't lost!

Plenty of models now showing Matthew following the original track up the coast with no loop. NC coast is certainly not out of the woods yet, and we could see more than just rain. Everyone be safe.

No such luck for Nags Head. It's obviously much further north and thus, in theory, less in the path of Matthew...not enough out of the path to not get rain (rain forecast for the whole weekend) but enough out of the path that the owners of our beach rental won't let us cancel. Headed out tomorrow at 2pm!

After 40 minutes on hold with Airbnb....got through to a guy in Ireland who had to "confirm" that there was a major hurricane hitting the Southeast US....and he agreed to issue me a refund and not penalize the hosts. Booking hotel rooms in Gatlinburg and headed the other direction later this afternoon! Wooo!

That sounds like a much better plan for this week. Glad you were able to get out of it. Have fun!
