Most of the ordinances that these towns have just don't effect us on a daily basis.
Most ordinances don't affect the average Joe / Jane Q. Public until it does--for instance, I had wanted to place a sign supporting Moderator cut: url removed Dix at my residence, but unable to do so without violating Cary ordinance.

I agree. I ran into the Cary Sign Ordinance during the last election season. I can only put one sign per candidate in MY yard, and I must remove it within 10 days of the election. If I wanted to leave it as a celebration or protest of the winner I would not be able to do so. The sign also would have the same sign restrictions as all other Cary signs.
I haven't personally run into it, but I think local residents frequently run into the sign restriction when they have yard sales or sell their house. In my neighborhood whenever someone puts up a yard sale sign it has a "violation" tag slapped on it within hours.
And while the commercial sign ordinance may not affect a homeowner directly, my husband and I notice it a lot at night when we are trying to find a business. The lack of lit signs can make it very hard to find things.
I know I also regularly violate the cat leash law, but I'm willing to live with that.
OMG, I tried to read through the sign ordinance and was SO confused -- I thought some signs, like those for yard sales, were acceptable? but had to be promptly removed?
It IS enforced here in Cary. I saw the Sign Police out in his Town of Cary car one afternoon, removing signs of all sorts along the road at the intersection of 54 and Cary Parkway. He had a trunk full of signs when he opened it!
I tried to read through the ordinances as they apply to animals. I could've sworn my husband and I were told we could only have two pets here in Cary, and we currently have two dogs. I've been 'sweating' the little turtle I picked up along the greenway one morning -- that gives me three pets now, and an "exotic animal."
Is that true about two pets, or was someone pulling our legs? (Guess the poor 'cat lady' has to live outside Cary town limits.)
And the deal with holiday signs and lights? Are people around here protesting or something? I have neighbors with lights and wreaths and bows, still.

I think they pet thing was proposed several years ago (limiting the number of household pets to 2 without some sort of animal care facility license) but was promptly struck down as it was determined to be unconstitutional.
I don't know that much about the sign ordinances but I do know they are strict about yard sale signs and such. I think they are allowed, but there is a right way to do it and a wrong way. I just don't remember what it is. But yes, they wil drive around and remove your yard sale signs!
