Pressure treated lumber was made with chromated copper arsenate prior to 2004. Since that time manufacturers have used different, less-effective chemicals. Your mailbox post may have been treated with CCA and is therefore not directly comparable to newer PT lumber.

Bleach won't kill mold on porous surfaces, however it will remove the discoloration.

Plain white distilled vinegar will. Spray it on full strength with a cup of Borax added per gallon and leave it on the deck. Repeat a couple of times during a month.

exaggeration? NO , not hardly...it's a fact ....the wood IS ROTTING !!
I don't have time for photos right now folks but when I do you will see exactly what I mean.
It would serve me NO purpose to exaggerate about this...I'm just giving others fair warning about what to watch out for and hoping for some additional advice from anyone is all.
I have been told by a lumber company that we're not the first folks this has happened to as of late.
