Spinning this off from the apartment thread to see if anyone has recommendations to pass on for interior home security cameras which can detect motion, record, notify.

I am looking for a simple apartment-sized solution to catch if anyone enters our place while we are out.

Some Google and Amazon searches brought up a few in the $200 range, one called Blink looked good and easy but as usual, the comments gave cause to consider other makes.

Not really the best forum to post this, although it gets a lot of activity because it's the R-D section....

Maybe check out the House sub-forum or the technology one.

This isn't really Triangle related. I'd try on the tech forums.

There are plenty of options available. You can buy a wi-fi camera that will record up to 2 weeks and allow the user to view remotely via phone for $40.

Blink is insanely easy to setup and fairly inexpensive. I bought a 3-pack earlier this year. It only records in ten second segments when movement is detected, but that's done for free with no monthly charge, like Nest.

Also interested. I don't need 8 cameras. One would be sufficient, with WiFi so I could access it from my phone. Most of what I saw online has too many cameras or way too expensive. I've got a friend in the hone automation bus in essence, I'll call him too.

Blink looks pretty attractive, until I read that it can't detect motion through glass, so that rules out recording the person approaching my front door. I have no areas outside protected by the weather, and their website has no mention about placing outdoors.

In my experience, the weak link in the consumer-level products is the web interface and/or phone app. The cameras have improved nicely, but if the software can't function reliably and consistently, what's the point?

This may not be local, but I don't mind it here at all -- there are a number of people on this board who have opinions I trust, which is more than I can say for some of the people on Nextdoor.com.

D-Link wi-fi camera for about $55 emails me six photos and a video (with sound) anytime motion is detected, and no monthly fees, etc. I can pan camera from my phone. Use a cryptic password!

I'm intrigued, but have a question about these cameras that email you when motion is detected ... is it possible to set up pre-set times when you do or do not get these notifications? There's no sense in getting notifications during the regular times when I'm at home moving around (i.e. weeknights between 6-11pm).
