Hello, I just got my first real job as a graduate from Clemson Univ. I'll be working at IBM in the RTP area, and wanted to get some recommendations on apartments in the area for a Single 23 year old Male. I'm looking for a 1 bedroom, and don't want to spend more than 800 on rent. I also have a 50lb lab so it limits some of the apartments. I'm interested in finding a loft or townhouse type apartments but it's not necessary. Simply put I want to be less than 20 mins from RTP but close to "it all" and where people my age will hang out. Any help would be appreciated!
There are quite a few apartment complexes in NW Raleigh within your price range and commute range. However, I wouldn't say that these places are "close to it all" as I lived in one of them for a year and it seemed like a hike whenever we wanted to go out. Brier Creek is the closest thing and that is more like a glorified strip mall. It is a nice area, but not a whole lot that someone your age would find compeletely satisfying entertainment wise. Most people 20's-30's tend to go to downtown Raleigh for entertainment.
So, what is your tradeoff factor? Are you willing to have a slightly longer commute, or will it be OK to be about 10 miles from all the action? While the NW Raleigh area is a little far flung from entertainment, there are a lot of younger people living in the apartments there, as well as families. It is a nice area, and there are several nice apartment complexes in the area.
I'm not familiar with the Durham side, but there might be something in that direction as well.
I'd recommend looking around the Brightleaf Square area in Durham. Less than 20 minutes to IBM (more like 10-15 max) and lots of converted tobacco warehouses that are now loft apartments. While its not the nightlife hotspot that Glenwood South in Raleigh is, Brightleaf/American Tobacco/9th Street in Durham provides a good scene for going out, and the revitilzation coming to central downtown Durham is sure to boost the nightlife offerings in the future. There's also quite a "hip factor" to being in these areas of Durham IMO.
Its not lofts or townhouses but Weston Lakeside in Cary is really nice. We lived in a corporate apt while house hunting (job relocation). Its relatively new, so the apts are modern and in good condition. Its very pretty, located next to the lake. They are very pet friendly and welcome dogs up to 75 lbs. My DH's commute was less than 20 mins. Im not sure of the rent since we didnt pay for it but Im thinking a 1 bedroom will prob be in or around your price range.
Take a look at camden westwood in morrisville. They're very nice
